ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the impact of implant-supported complete dentures compared to conventional complete dentures on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in elderly Romanian edentulous patients. Methods: A longitudinal study involving 115 initially recruited edentulous patients was conducted, with 63 completing the study over an 18-month period. Data collection utilized the OHIP-5 questionnaire, assessing OHRQoL at baseline with conventional dentures and three months post-implant-supported denture placement. Statistical analysis included non-parametric tests and Fisher’s exact tests for data. Results: Using a comparative analysis of questionnaire responses, we found that patients whose treatment included implant-supported dentures had considerable improvements across all five categories of OHRQoL. Results: When compared to traditional dentures, implant-supported complete dentures considerably improve mastication ability, pain reduction, aesthetics, taste perception, and activity performance, lending credence to the hypothesis that these prosthetics greatly improve OHRQoL among elderly patients without teeth. These findings highlight the importance of dental prosthesis therapies in improving patients’ overall health-related quality of life.
