ABSTRACT
Aim of the study The aim of this meta-analysis was to secondarily analyse the factors that affect the marginal and internal adaptation of secondary restorations, including crowns, inlays and onlays. Materials and methods The literature for articles published in the past five years, aimed to compared marginal and internal adaptation of crowns, inlays or onlays, manufactures from different materials and by different techniques. The research followed the parameters that gave the possibility to analyse the information available in literature and extract data to ascertain the relevant factors that would affect the marginal and internal adaptation of crowns, inlays and onlays manufactured by different technologies and dental materials. Results The outcome of this research was the identifications of the lacunae in literature in this topic, and recommend directions for future research. Conclusions. Variations of factors did not significantly affect either the marginal or internal adaptation. Even factors that showed statistically significant values were well within the clinically acceptable range. Therefore, it may be concluded that attention to technique and operator skill would result in clinically acceptable marginal and internal adaptation, irrespective of the factors that can influence it.
