ABSTRACT
Aim of the study: The study aims to evaluate the frequency of the maxillary sinus pathologies and complications occurring during and after dental extraction and dental implants placement, among which we list: maxillary sinusitis, hematomas, oedema, oro-sinus fistulas, perforation of the sinus mucosa, pushing the dental roots at the level of the maxillary sinus. Material and methods: The observational study is based on the data collected from the clinical records and radiographs taken from 80 patients of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic Timisoara, diagnosed with various pathologies at the level of the maxillary sinus as a result of dento-alveolar surgery complications. Results The patients enrolled in the study presented different forms of sinusitis, the most common being the chronic one. Bilateral involvement of sinusitis was predominated by acute forms, while unilateral involvement was associated with chronic pathology. The first upper molar was most often involved both in the pathology of maxillary sinusitis and in accidents and surgical complications, in a percentage of 16.50% of the group of patients analysed in this study. Conclusions Postoperative complications arising from inappropriate surgical procedures can in certain situations reduce the quality of life of affected patients, therefore it is important to identify the risk factors associated with postoperative complications and eliminate them as much as possible.
