ABSTRACT
Aim of the study The aim of the study is to determine the perception of orthodontic specialists in Romania regarding the lingual orthodontic treatment technique and the challenges they face in implementing this technique in private practices.
Materials and methods For this purpose, a questionnaire validated by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) was selected from the specialized literature. The questionnaire included 13 questions with both single-choice and multiple-choice answers. The questions were addressed to orthodontic specialists to assess their opinions on the lingual orthodontic treatment technique and the difficulties they encounter in applying this technique in private practices.
Results A total of 62 orthodontic specialists responded to the questionnaire, of which 22.6% currently practice the lingual orthodontic technique, while 77.4% use the Incognito 3M lingual system in their practice. One advantage of using this technique is its aesthetic appeal. However, lack of patient comfort, cost, and low demand were identified as the main challenges faced by orthodontic specialists.
Conclusions The lingual orthodontic treatment technique has the potential to meet patients’ demands for aesthetics and comfort, thereby contributing to an improved quality of life.
