Samuel LELLOUCH , Philippe PIRNAY

ABSTRACT

The object of this study is to suggest a model for the oral hygiene training in children with mental handicap of 6 to 12 years of age, enrolled in specialized structures.

For that purpose a study has been conducted on 16 nurses of the Medical – Educative Institutes of Île-de-France in order to answer the following question: which parameters should be taken into account when creating educative actions for handicapped children? Who are the actors of the education? Which are the necessary tools? To answer these questions, a study was carried out. The idea of implementing an oral hygiene training for the enrolled children was communicated to the interrogated nurses. Their unanimously affirmative answers reflects a possible real improvement in the field of oral hygiene. Groups of 10 to 15 children would be formed based on the homogenous comprehension level as indicated by the educators.
